Issue#103: Writing for Free - Revisited
February 29, 2016
Greetings Fellow Travel Writers and Bloggers!

Most new freelance travel writers get started by writing a few stories for free. This is a great way to start out, gain some experience and build up a few bylines.

But writing for free gets old after a while - especially when you have bills to pay and want to use your writing skills to earn some income. After all, it’s only fair to get paid for your work!

But sometimes it’s not so straightforward. Some offers to “write for free” might come with other benefits beyond a paycheck.

How do you sort out when to write for free, and when to pass? Should you ever commit to write for free long-term? Should you write multiple articles for the same publication or website?

I’ve revisited this topic in this week’s featured post because of a recent email I received from a travel writer. Read the article to see what the editor offered the writer, and my view about what he needs to consider before he decides to accept or reject the offer.

P.S. At the end of this article is a link to a previous article I wrote about the same topic, from a different perspective. Be sure and read that one, too.
