Issue #90: 10 Ways to Write Like a Seasoned Professional
November 30, 2015
Greetings Fellow Travel Writers and Bloggers!

Thanksgiving weekend is over here in the U.S., and the turkeys can go back to living a normal life again. For the rest of us, the shopping season has begun and life won’t be normal again for a while.

Before the holidays unravel everyone’s best intentions, it’s a good time to send out a few more query letters. It’s also time to tie up loose ends on any travel stories that you owe to editors.

Some aspiring travel writers wonder why editors never reply to their query letters. One reason this happens is because the writer doesn’t tell a good mini-story in their pitch.

Most beginning travel writers have not yet honed their writing skills, making it difficult to write a good query letter and travel article. I was in the same boat when I first got started. Much of my early writing could have been improved.

But, we all start somewhere.

The good news is that, with the study and practice of good writing habits and techniques, you can improve your travel writing tremendously.

This week’s featured article includes ten ways to ramp up your travel writing craft - and write like a seasoned professional.

Check it out - and then try out some of the techniques in your next article (or query letter). See what works for you in telling a better story.

I’m heading out tomorrow on a press trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan. Keep an eye on my Facebook site. I plan to post something each day and let you know what I’m up to.

If you haven’t already done so, please ‘Friend’ me (Roy Stevenson Freelance Writer) on Facebook. My posts are generally travel writing-related and I try to keep it fun.

My Saturday morning ‘Where’s Roy’ Facebook post has been particularly popular! I post a travel photo—usually with me in it—and you have to guess where the heck I am. A few friends and subscribers have proved particularly adept at this.

That’s all for now.

Until next time, you keep pitching....
